If you're not sure, examine the other item found in the scrunchie: a ring. Who does it belong to?

Hint 3 — Necklace
The ring belongs to Priya Reed. The Employee Disciplinary Report says Ella stole a heart shaped ring from Priya and didn't return it. The ring in the scrunchie is heart shaped.

Hint 4 — Necklace
Odessa's practice notes reveal that she believes her necklace was stolen. Ella stole Priya's ring, and Ella has an issue with stealing, generally (see the "Shoplifter Wall of Shame" photo). Also, Ella doesn't like Odessa (see the notes she exchanged with Leonie). We can infer that Ella stole Odessa's necklace — like she stole Priya's ring — and has been keeping it in her scrunchie.
The necklace is Odessa's.

Jonas' blog post has a picture of a closed adoption record that matches Odessa (same birthday, born in the same place, and adopted by a family in Toronto — where Odessa lives now). Jonas' blog posts and letter show he think this adoption record reflects a big secret that's been kept from Odessa — Odessa was adopted.
Preston's will mentions his late wife, Clarisse Voss, and their "surviving biological child". Since Clarisse only had one child, this child must be Odessa. This makes Preston Odessa's biological father.
